Choosing a Sponsor
All candidates in Confirmation 1 must complete the process of choosing a Confirmation Sponsor. It is very important that the teen chooses a Sponsor that follows the Archdiocese of Boston Confirmation Guidelines:
- The Sponsor must be a confirmed member living a life in harmony with the Catholic Church and be, if possible, the same person who served as the candidate’s godparent at Baptism.
- The Sponsor ought to be a living witness to the Catholic faith through regular participation in the sacramental life of the church.
- The Sponsor ought to communicate to the candidate the importance of daily prayer, regular reception of the sacraments, Christian service and all else that pertains to the preparation process, as well as, to continued Catholic living reception of the sacrament.
- The Sponsor may not be a parent.

Choosing a Confirmation Name
All candidates in Confirmation 1 must choose a Confirmation Name after they have selected a Sponsor. The candidate should consult both the sponsor and parents on the selection. The candidate should select a Confirmation Name from a list of canonized Saints of either gender. Use Internet searching to find Saints that that have qualities or virtues that you seek.
